Background: (Information about how and why the scholarship was established, who established it, and some background information about the person(s) or group for whom the scholarship is named, including the relationship to The University.)
Eligibility: List any special characteristics or requirements that the donors or honorees feel the scholarship recipient(s) should meet (i.e. character, scholarship, leadership, financial need, specific background, field of study or future plans, etc.). Note whether the scholarship is to go to an entering freshman, undergraduate or graduate student. Designate if the scholarship can be received by the same student more than once.
Selection: The Scholarship Committee of The Texas Exes is the representative body that approves each scholarship selection. You may designate the Scholarship Committee as the group that selects the recipient from a field of applicants or you can establish another selection group that will recommend a recipient and alternate to the Scholarship Committee. All recipients must be approved by the Scholarship Committee.
Amount: The scholarship will be endowed when contributions total at least $30,000 for scholarships with general criteria. For scholarships with very specific criteria, the minimum endowment level is $50,000. Additional contributions may be made to the scholarship at any time. The fund will be invested and administered within the established fiduciary policy of The Texas Exes, and their Investment Committee will set the percentage of income to be awarded to recipients each year. The Investment Committee sets administrative fees that are paid to the money managers, investment consultants and the Association. The fees are based on the market value of the fund and are taken from the fund each year. Any earnings not awarded to the recipients each year will be returned to the fund to provide for fund growth.
Presentation/Recognition: The scholarship will be presented at The Texas Exes’ annual scholarship awards presentation or at another appropriate public occasion. A photo of the donor will be displayed in the Alumni Center’s Legends Room and the name of the scholarship will be listed in the Alumni Center’s Hall of Honor.
Alterations: The terms of this scholarship may be altered by the Board of Directors of The Texas Exes Asian Alumni Network if it is determined that the terms no longer provide the significant award which was originally intended.
