Gary Hwu

Contributing Editor (2010)

Gary Hwu is a student at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in International Relations, with a focus on US-China foreign policy. He is a proud member of the UT PRSSA and the Korean Undergraduate Student Association (KUSA) Dance Crew. Some of his hobbies include playing the piano, dancing, basketball, and watching hours of the Disney Channel. And of course, eating! Gary hopes that he can help bring out the Asian culture and traditions in the Austin community.

Katherine Fan

Featured Writer (2010)

Katherine is a 2008 UT journalism and Asian American studies graduate. While in college, she served an officer for the Taiwanese International Students’ Association and worked for the University in several capacities, most recently as a teaching assistant and managing editor for the China Maymester journalism program in 2009. I have been a freelance wedding photographer since 2002, and hope to attend UT law school in the near future. In her free time, she enjoys crafting, blogging, and traveling. Katherine is passionate about minority issues and social justice, believing the two often go hand in hand. She’s excited to see her alma mater striving to integrate more Asian American voices because she truly believes that what starts here at UT will change the world.

Ernie Chan

Featured Writer (2010)

Ernie graduated from UT with a Bachelor of Science in computer science in 2004.  He then returned to UT in 2005 to start his PhD in computer science for which he just graduated in 2010.  As an undergrad, he was a member of Longhorn Band, and as a grad student, he served as Texas Exes Asian Alumni Network communication chair in 2010.  He now works at NVIDIA in California while truly missing Austin.  He hopes that TEAAN will continue to grow and have a greater influence in the Asian community.
