You Bring Out the Asian American in Me
Every year the Asian Desi Pacific Islander American Collective APAC hosts the premier fall welcome event You Bring Out the Asian American in Me YBO. This year APAC and the Asian American Culture Committee ACC are headlining this great event.
YBO is an event that welcomes first year and continuing students. This annual event unifies the Asian communities across the University of Texas by informing them about fellow Asian American organizations as well as resources available here on campus. As an added benefit, there are also entertaining and cultural performances during YBO.
YBO is established to unite Asian Americans on campus, as well as encourage new friendships and the excitement that accompanies it. Coming to a university of our population can be a difficult transition for many first year students; YBO gives Asian American first year students not only an experience of how diverse and dynamic the Asian community here at UT is but also a chance to network and form various alliances among Asian American students. This welcoming celebration will impact the students as it generates a realization of how Asian Americans play a role here at UT and the world around us. Lastly, YBO will provide educational resources and educate students about social justice issues.
YBO will take place on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. There will be two parts to the event; one is the Organization Fair from 5:30-6:30 PM in the Quadrangle Room, and second is the performance from 7:30-9:30 PM in the Texas Union Ballroom. Doors open at 7:00 PM for the audience. There will be free food at the Organization Fair as well as free T-shirts and amazing prizes!
The YBO committee welcomes everyone to attend this event as it serves to be a phenomenal start to the school year! Thank you!
Sincerely,
Hue Dang and Avani Raythata
